About Smt. Sujatha Nair

Smt. Sujatha Nair is the daughter and disciple of Smt. Jayashree Nair founder director of Upaasana academy of fine arts, Mumbai . She has been learning Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam from her mother for more than three decades.
 

 

In Bharatanatyam she is fortunate to have received training from Gurus like Kalaimamani Vidwan Late Kathiruvelu Pillai, Kalaimamani Guru Late Mahalingam Pillai, Guru Late Ramaswamy Bhagavathar, Padmabhushan awardee Late Kalanidhi Narayanan and Smt. Shobhana Bhalachandra senior most disciple of Guru Sri Dhananjayan. She continues her rigorous training under her mother Smt Jayashree Nair. Sujatha has done numerous performances all over India and abroad. She is a recipient of the Government of India Scholarship for Bharatanatyam and is an “A” grade artiste of Doordarshan.
 

 

 Sujatha has also received training in Mohiniyattam from late Kalamandalam Leelamma, Kalamandalam Kshemavathi and Smt. Neena Prasad.
 

 

She is also learning Odissi from Smt. Debi Basu, senior disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and has numerous performances in all the three styles to her credit.
 

 

Sujatha has been performing on prestigious stages, in India and abroad in festivals like Ananaya Festival, Bandra Festival, Elephanta Festival, Girnar Mahotsav, ISHA Navaratri Festival, Kalaghoda Festival, Khajuraho Festival, Mumbai Festival, NCPA Mudra Festival, Natyanjlai Festival, Navaneetam's Rangaharsha festival, Nagarjunasagar Festival, Porbandar Sandipani Sangeet Mahotsav, Sirpur Festival, Swamy Haridas Sammelan, India Festival, Ghana, Kuwait, Dubai etc. to name a few

   

Sujatha has also learned Kathakali under Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan for a few years and have done few stage performannces.
 

 

Sujatha is a recipient of the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Govt. of India She is an A grade artiste of the Doordarshan, and is a recipient of titles like “Ranga Shree”, “Nritya Shivali”, “Sri Sudarshna Natya Peravi” etc.
 

 

She is a scholarship student of Carnatic music; under late Smt. T.R.Balamani and sings and does nattuvangam for regular stage performances and also conducts music classes.
 

 

Sujatha has been teaching Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattom in her parent institute Upaasana, for more than 25 years.
